This is a gentle reminder that we are planning to have a fund raising event for the Saraniya Meditation centre in Manchester. We have seen many changes in our Centre during the past decade. There has been regular intensive meditation retreats, Youth Buddhist culture courses, Cultural and Buddhist events, monthly meditations, Wednesday beginners and intermediate meditation sessions, etc. Sayadaw U Pannasami has been the flag bearer for Theraveda Buddhism and had travelled much inside the UK and to spread the message to Brussels, the heartland of Europe. But the best is yet to come, because we are planning to build a spacious meditation hall next to the current building which will be a great addition to the existing complex. Right now we have submitted for the planning permission and awaiting results.
Our Dhamma hall at Lower Broughton road, seems a little bit overcrowded during the major events such as Waso, Youth course and during the main intensive retreats. So this is a once in a life time chance to make a difference, for all the yogi families in the North of the UK, for all those who are going down the path of Insight meditation .. to propagate Theraveda Buddhism, and double our efforts to continue this endeavour to provide a great Meditation space to one and all, to all European and Burmese, who are trying their best to purify their mind and body. In other words, a great achievement in times of adversity, in Europe, for Sasana.
Even if you cannot come, we would welcome donations towards this building. The last fund raising was a great event and many came to enjoy the food and the music. We would like to say a big thank you to all who came. This coming event will take place on the 22nd September in Manchester at 1 PM . Many traditional Burmese foods (Monhinga, Mont Phet –htoke, Tohu-thoke etc. etc) will be available. And a Karaoke.
Location -Elm bank, Eccles Masonic Hall (No. 46 – 62), Half Edge Lane, Eccles, Manchester, M30 9BA

The 6th youth Buddhism and Culture course was completed yesterday. It was a success because of the parents, volunteer teachers and sayadaw guiding them. There were about 34 youths attending it. The senior most students studied the Satipatthana sutta and all managed to participate in the meditation, both sitting and walking meditation. Well done to the team at MDF! It brings to my mind this saying....'contrary to popular belief, there most certainly is an "I" in "team." It is the same "I" that appears three times in "responsibility."

Dear All Dhamma friends,
We had a meeting with our project manager for the new meditation hall last month. There has been a minor setback. The setback is that, we needed to re-submit the planning permit for the meditation hall as the company we contracted, went bankrupt. But this is just a temporary setback and we have already resummitted the planning permission.
There are other issues that we are dealing with day to day, such as borrowing funds from bank for our new meditation hall, the upkeep of the old building, initiating single day retreats, Youth culture courses, etc. We will be presenting them at the AGM which is on the 7th of July, 1 PM
Do please come and join us, as this is really an exciting times for the Manchester based organisation as the gathering place of Burmese, representing our Buddhist belief ( especially in this time of global unrest), Burmese culture, community and social cohesion in the North of the UK. The 'Buddhism and Youth 'classes held at this centre, also represent the best of our younger generation and Manchester Kyaung in the UK.
Once the new building has finished, we heard that Sayadawgyi has promised to come. As always, Sayadaw has been central to all of this. We appreciate very much for all your support these past years, to sayadaw and to the team here in the north of UK. Special thanks to Ma Ma Thawka, who took notes and will later circulate the meeting minutes of the meeting.
Monhinga will be served.
Looking forward to see you all.
